Environmental Remediation can be applied to natural environments such as soil, sediment, groundwater, or surface water for the general protection of human health and the environment. Remediation can also involve the removal of material deemed potentially hazardous to humans such as mold, asbestos, or lead.

The main purpose of environmental remediation is to restore real estate sites or resources to levels that are safe for humans, animals and returns the environment to its original conditions.

Environmental Remediation technologies are many and varied but can be categorized into ex-situ and in-situ methods. Solutech Environmental Consultants has performed bioremediation for numerous clients, providing environmental remediation of impacted materials that would have otherwise been untreatable.
Ex-situ methods involve excavation of affected soils and subsequent treatment at the surface.
In-situ methods seek to treat the contamination without removing the soils.
In the United States, environmental remediation is generally subject to Preliminary Remediation Goals (PRGs) from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Where no legislated standards exist or where standards are advisory, environmental remediation can be based on assessments of human health and ecological risks.
